If you're searching for a podcast studio near Youngstown, you'll want more than a room with a microphone. Here's what to check before you book, and how we measure up.
1. The room
A good studio is soundproof and acoustically treated. Without that, you get echo, outside noise and that "recorded in an office" sound. Ask any studio how the room is treated.
Our studio at 400 W Railroad St in Columbiana is soundproofed and acoustically treated to keep out echo and outside noise, so your voice comes through clean.
2. The microphones
Broadcast microphones make a huge difference, especially for quiet speakers. We use the Shure SM7dB. It has a built-in preamp, so softer voices still come through full and clear without background hiss.
3. The cameras
For a video podcast, look for multiple 4K cameras. More angles make the show feel like a real production, and 4K keeps your vertical clips sharp.
We run up to four 4K cameras, including Sony Alpha 1 and Sony a7S III cameras, switched live on a RØDECaster Video console. More on our video podcast production
4. Lighting
Good lighting is the difference between "webcam" and "TV." Ask whether lighting is set up for you or if you're expected to do it yourself. At our studio, Godox studio lighting is set for your set before you arrive.
5. Someone in the room
Many studios hand you a key and leave. Ask who runs the session. Here, your producer is in the room for every session, handling setup and watching levels so you can focus on the conversation.
6. Location
We're in Columbiana, a short drive from Youngstown, Boardman, Canfield and Salem. Parking is easy, and the studio is quiet and private, which helps guests relax. Get directions
